Updated: Apr 27

Aromatherapy, or essential oil therapy is a range of traditional, alternative or complementary therapies that use essential oils and other aromatic plant compounds. Essential Oils are the life blood of the plant that are in charge of the regeneration of cells and therefore are critical to the immune system of plants, and they work the same way, for humans.

Anxiety and stress are currently the top challenges in mental health today. Here are some simple ways to manage both, with aromatherapy!

1. Aromatherapy massage

Ultimately, the most effective way to relieve stress and anxiety is through touch. Decreased muscle tension from massage promotes a level of calm and relaxation. With an aromatherapy massage, 20 drops of high quality essential oils are added to 60ml of a carrier oil like grape seed oil and combined with expert hands - anxiety and stress relief can be massaged away...

2. Scented Candles

Just watching a candle flicker sometimes, kind of feels like the entire world has slowed down! That alone has its own set of therapeutic benefits but it goes beyond that with aromatherapy scented candles. They can create an amazing ambiance that can both be stress relieving and memory inducing. It helps that they add an element of luxury to your homes interior decor! You can try scented candles such as lavender, vanilla and sandalwood and many other blended scents available.

3. Enjoy a relaxing bath

Enjoy a relaxing soak in the tub and don't hold back on the luxuries! Adding a few drops of essential oils to your bath water is an easy way to make use of the benefits of the oil. With as little as 8 drops, you can turn a routine getting clean expedition to a pamper experience with the use of the right essential oils such as ylang ylang, lavendar, bergamot, jasmine and rose. Why stop there, you can add, some scented candles to the mix too!

4. Diffusers

Diffusers are becoming a more and more popular feature in peoples homes. There are different types of diffusers available on the market. Cool air, reed, nebulizers and humidifiers. What you pick, depends really on your required use of the product. Why not mix things up and try different ones for different parts of your home? What they do have in common, is give your the option to add essential oils to your base mix of water or oil.

5. Apply them to your skin

Before you go crazy with applying essential oils to your skin, it is important to note that they are extremely potent and therefore can cause irritation to the skin. Citrus based oils and sun for example can cause serious sun burn! To add them to your skin, we recommend you blending them with a carrier oil such as coconut or olive oil. Best way to remember the proportions is the 1:1 rule. 1 teaspoon of carrier oil to 1 drop of essential oil!

Lavender and Chamomile are two of the most popular essential oils for getting a good night's rest! Adding 3 drops of these to a hankie or your pillowcase can send you into deep slumber, so make sure your alarm clock is set! Essential oils can stain your bedding so either use them on darker coloured linen or on a cloth that you can place over your pillow!
